Big Creek Greenway Boardwalk Replacement
Excellere completed this project for the City of Alpharetta, which involved constructing more than 1,000 feet of boardwalk adjacent to Big Creek near Mansell Road. The work included the installation of Excellere-designed helical piers to support steel framing, reinforced concrete decking, and steel handrails along both sides of the boardwalk.
To address the site’s environmentally sensitive conditions, Excellere deployed its custom-fabricated concrete dumper, allowing concrete to be efficiently transported and placed from the nearest access point to the jobsite. Drawing on the team’s geotechnical engineering expertise and extensive experience with helical pier design and installation, Excellere successfully redesigned the pier system when subsurface conditions differed from those described in the original geotechnical report.
Although the report anticipated refusal between 13 and 18 linear feet, no refusal was encountered, and piers were advanced to depths of up to 56 linear feet without achieving the required installation torque. By analyzing installation torque logs, Excellere accurately evaluated in-situ soil conditions and was able to move forward with construction without additional geotechnical testing, resulting in significant cost savings for the City of Alpharetta.
